So sadly my trip is winding down..I have 8 days left before I come back home. But there is still a lot to be done. Last week I took part in the spelling bee as one of the judges and this week we have another team here so I am working partly with them because there are only 8 of them and partly in the school in the English classes. Tonight I have the pleasure of being Grill Master and cooking up 200 hot dogs for our special team meal to go along with soda, chips, and chocolate bananas. I have been shouldering more responsibility the past 10 days because may of the missionaries are out of the country right now. It's been challenging but also very rewarding to have that kind of responsibility. I still have plenty of time to play and talk with the kids. My favorite moment of everyday is when school lets out and I am there to pickup my sponsor kid from school just like every other parent is there to do. I can only imagine how special that is for her. Many of the kids have been begging me to come back for Christmas so I can share that with them but we will see where God takes me.

Last week I started my first week as an English teacher in the school. I do not have my own classes but I am with a teacher each week helping them establish a good English program in the school. Classes are from 7 in the morning until 1:30 in the afternoon. Last Friday, my family also arrived on a team and it has been nice to see them. We went to a water park on Saturday with the kids which was a lot of fun but it was very hot! My other duties so far just include helping with homework and playing with the kids! I have about three weeks left and I am looking forward to the time I have left here!

One last thing..we really need some more child sponsors!! For 35$ a month you can help support a child with their medical/dental needs, food, clothes, great education, fun, and love!!! Each child needs roughly 15 sponsors to be fully supported for the year. I posted a link to the website below if you are curious and want to take a look. If you have any questions, concerns, or need advice on what child you should sponsor, please feel free to email me at schreckengastr17@gmail.com or if you have an iPhone, text me at 7173687312. Please pass this along to your friends, family, co-workers, or anyone else that may be interested in sponsoring a child. If that is too big off a commitment to make, we also accept one time donations and are always looking for soccer balls, movies, clothes, basketballs, make-up, nail polish, hair ties, shoes, hygiene essentials, and more. These items can either be shipped to the home or sent down with our Servants team coming in July. Thank you so much for you continued support and I hope you will at least consider sponsoring a child!!
Hey y'all, I know its been a while since I last posted but I've been extremely busy! Since my last post, I finished my two weeks in language school and moved into NLCH where I will be the rest of the summer. The day after I moved in, one of the visiting teams took us to an amusement park! The kids had a blast and it was a nice relaxing day to get reacquainted with all of the kids. Sunday was Election Day in Guatemala so we didn't do a whole lot due to violence in the capital and traffic. We were supposed to go to Church but our bus driver never showed up so we had church in the dining area. During the past week I've began to start my actual intern duties. Yes a lot of that revolves around playing with the kids and just hanging out but there are other things. I've been helping them with their chores, homework, serving lunch/dinner, going on shopping trips for them, and my main job so far has been to get them to finish their Christmas cards for their sponsors. The kids have off of school until July 2nd so until then my job is to entertain them and keep them as busy as possible so they don't go stir crazy. Another team is coming tomorrow night so that will help a lot. All is well and I could not be happier. Thanks again for your continued support!

After an interesting start to my trip which included spending the night on the floor of Panama City airport and an angry mob of Latinos, I made it to Guatemala and finished my first week of language school. The four hour lesson everyday is entirely in Spanish in a one on one capacity so it is very challenging. When I'm not studying, I go walk around and check out the different sites Antigua has to offer. On Tuesday, the school took us to the ruins of San Fransisco and on Thursday they took us to a traditional Mayan town close by called San Antonio. Both places were beautiful and full of history. However, the best part of Antigua is waking up every morning and being able to look out my window and see several Volcanos. The scenery is amazing and so is the city.

Bienvenidos

Hey y'all! I'm ten days out from leaving for my internship and I'm super excited. A lot of y'all had asked if there was a way I could post things from my trip. Some of you may have me on facebook and I will try to update that as often as possible but this will be the main source of updates from my trip. Thanks again for your support and I can't wait to get started!
